Danny McCollim
Keyboards/Composer
Danny started playing the piano at the age of 4. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts. In his senior year he was a member of the prestigious “Berklee Recording Band” under the direction of Herb Pomeroy. Dan also received the “Hank Jones Award” that year. An accomplished pianist, composer and arranger, he has performed with the Spokane Symphony under Gunther Schuller, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, the Violin Jazz summits I, II and III under Gunther Schuller and such artists as saxophonists Michael Brecker, Richie Cole, Frank Foster, Bud Shank, Lew Tabakin and Ernie Watts; trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Jack Sheldon; trombonist Conrad Herwig; guitarists Howard Roberts and Larry Coryell; vocalists Ethel Ennis, Peter Rivera, and Robert Vaughn; drummers Dave Weckl, Steve Smith; the Mills Brothers, the Platters, the Drifters, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, The Diamonds, The Four Aces.
Local groups in the Spokane area include, Jazz Conspiracy, Charlie Butts and the Filter Tips, and StepBothers, and his current project, SideStep featuring Pat Barclay-guitar and Jon Goforth-sax.
Danny is currently on the faculty at SFCC teaching courses in Jazz studies and Music Production in the popular Audio Engineering program and is the touring keyboard player with Motown recording artist Peter Rivera from the band Rare Earth.
